Morgan (Santa Lucia Highlands AVA)

Tucked alongside the western slopes of Salinas Valley, Morgan wines emerge from the cool climes of Monterey County, where cold Pacific weather dramatically slows the ripening process to deliver crisp, refreshing, multilayered wines.

For over four decades, Morgan Winery has been synonymous with the Santa Lucia Highlands—long before the AVA was officially recognized in 1991. Founder Dan Morgan Lee, a devoted winegrower, helped define the region, showcasing the impact of the Santa Lucia Highlands’ proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the area’s extended growing season. Today, the family-owned and -operated winery remains committed to the idea that “quality products grow a region.”

‍

The Pacific Ocean defines the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. Located within Monterey County, the region is cool and foggy—a combination that gives Morgan Winery a long, steady season to ripen Pinot Noir. The winery’s Double L Estate Vineyard lies at the northern edge of the AVA, where Morgan's organic farming practices cooperate with the maritime climate to yield multilayered grapes that express the essence of this special slice of California.

‍

Morgan's Double L Pinot Noir remains a quintessential representation of the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. Combining complex aromas of dark fruits, wild roses, spices and freshly turned earth, the wine’s multifaceted personality speaks to the region’s maritime climate and Morgan’s incredible aptitude in the cellar.
