DAOU (Paso Robles AVA)

DAOU Vineyards staked an early claim in Paso Robles’ beloved Adelaida District AVA in 2007. Brothers Georges and Daniel Daou found inspiration in the rugged slopes of the DAOU Mountain, which lies within the Adelaida District at the northwestern edge of the greater Paso Robles AVA. The mountainous land, which covers 212 acres and boasts slopes up to 56 degrees, is ideal for crafting powerful, long-lived Cabernet Sauvignon.

The secret to DAOU’s coveted wines lies in the Adelaida District’s unique exposition:[AH2] With elevations up to 2,200 feet above sea level on the estate, the weather is considerably wetter than at lower elevations, providing natural irrigation for the vines. Simultaneously, high concentrations of limestone in the soil—an element essential to fine winemaking–offer an exceptional underground blueprint for long-lived wines. Combined with DAOU’s elevation in the Adelaida District and the dramatic overnight temperature swings of the Paso Robles AVA, the environment conspires to create exceptionally powerful, smooth, multifaceted Cabernet Sauvignon.

The region’s impact on DAOU wines is easy to see from the estate, which overlooks the Paso Robles AVA from the top of DAOU Mountain, roughly 14 miles from the mighty Pacific.
